Nygårdsparken - this is the name of the largest public park in Bergen, Norway. It is in the centre of the city and was originally created in 1881 in the style of an English garden. The planned redevelopment measures were intended to create active opportunities for children.
The steepness of the slope and the unusual subsoil situation made the installation of this playground particularly challenging. The result is a climbing path for children of different ages.
A total of 13 different climbing towers are connected to each other via net tunnels and form a connected climbing landscape that winds over 60 metres up a slope covered with trees. The children reach the entry towers via ladders and climbing ropes.
With the natural colour scheme of red-brown posts and balls, olive pipes and clamps, and beige ropes, the installation blends in beautifully with the prevailing trees. The bamboo panels also support this style.
Some of the net tunnels are equipped with different kinds of challenges inside. Various passages made of nets and HDPE panels here and there narrow the diameter of the tunnels or the path is crossed by climbing ropes.
In the lower part of the climbing landscape there are additional add-on elements such as rubber membranes at different heights, various horizontal nets, a nest swing and a wobble bridge. (Photos: © UNIQA AS)
