Altmühlpromenade in Gunzenhausen
On the western edge of the historic downtown area of Gunzenhausen, southwest of Nuremberg, the “Platz für Alle” (“Place for Everyone”) was established at the end of 2024 along the Altmühl Promenade – an ADA-accessible playground offering a diverse range of play experiences for people of all ages and abilities. In the middle of the green Altmühl floodplain, an unused space was transformed into a vibrant gathering place for all generations, also accessible to individuals with limited mobility or visual impairments.
In the large sand area, there are various pieces of climbing equipment for toddlers, including a 4.3-ft-high platform with an HDPE slide, accessible via plateau steps and a suspension bridge or a ramp. More active children can reach the slide pedestal by climbing across the Spider’s Web, a transition net, and a Chessboard Bridge.
Two additional areas with rubber safety surfacing expand the options. One of these features four different swings: a comfortable basket swing that invites children to swing together, as well as a multi-user swing with various seats for different needs.
The large spatial net is connected via a net tunnel to a smaller playhouse, from which a tunnel slide allows children to ride down. Beneath the net, four pendulum seats invite children to experience the gentle movements of the net – without even having to climb up themselves.
